A family of three adults and five children were found shot to death inside a rural home in Enoch City, southwest Utah on Wednesday, authorities said.
The police found the bodies while conducting a welfare check at the residence, which is about 245 miles south of Salt Lake City. According to the news release, all of the bodies were found inside the home.
The motive for the killings is not known and the police have not yet given details about those who were killed. The investigation remains active, but city officials said they don’t believe there is an ongoing threat to the public, underscoring there are no suspects at large.
The City Manager Rob Dotson said the community was shocked by the news of eight bodies and that the deceased were well in the southern Utah town.
“Many of us have served with them in church, in the community and gone to school with these individuals,” Dotson said in a video statement Wednesday night.
“And so, this community at this time is hurting. They are feeling loss and pain. They have a lot of questions, which is natural, and they are here to support,” Dotson added.
Our hearts go out to all those affected by this senseless violence. Please keep the community of Enoch in your prayers. https://t.co/mCjejDhYGf
