A Helicopter crashed near a kindergarten outside Kyivon leaving 18 people dead this morning Wednesday 18 January 2023.
The deceased include Ukraine’s interior minister Denys Monastyrsky, his deputy, Yevhen Yenin, and the state secretary, Yurii Lubkovych, Klymenko, and 15 children.
All this comes as the country’s war with Russia is still ongoing and as of now approaching 11 months of fighting, however, the cause of the crash is still unknown.
According to the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration Kuleba says a total number of 29 people were injured in the Crash in the city of Brovary, in the surrounding area of Ukraine’s capital.
“At the time of the tragedy, children and employees of the institution were in the kindergarten. At this point, everyone was evacuated.”
Ukrainian officials paid tribute to their colleagues including interior ministry adviser Anton Gerashchenko saying.
“My friends, statesmen Denys Monastyrskyi, Yevhen Yenin, Yurii Lubkovych, everyone who was on board that helicopter, were patriots who worked to make Ukraine stronger. We will always remember you. Your families will be cared for. Eternal memory to my friends.”
The spokesperson Yurii Ihnat for Ukraine’s Air Force Command asserted that the commission would include several aviation experts. “It is too early to talk about the causes of the crash.”
Commenting on the incident, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal confirmed that he had ordered a special commission to be formed and carry on an investigation into the circumstances of the helicopter crash.
“A great loss for the government team and the entire state. My sincere condolences to the families of all the victims,” he added.
