The daughter of the renowned late ex-president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has been sentenced to five years of prison according to reports.

Faezeh Hashemi, 60, was arrested in September after encouraging Iranians to take part in anti-government protests and hence accused of inciting violence and rioters.

Her lawyer Neda Shams tweeted on Monday evening that she was sentenced “on the declared charges at the initial stage”, without providing further details.

“It’s not right to comment on it considering that the current verdict is not final. The client is still in prison and there are other cases against her,” she added.

Before this, Hashema a prominent critic of the clerical establishment and the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), has been imprisoned several times.
