Police block EACOP public debate having NUP president Bobi Wine and Besigye.

The planned debate that was set for Tuesday at Emerald Hotel in Wandegeya organised by the African initiative on food security and the environment was in vain.

It should be noted that the (AIFE-Uganda), a not-for-profit organization with a role to arrange communities to take charge against climate change.

The public debate that had been set up to discuss the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project has been hindered by the police.

The former presidential candidates namely Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu 2021 elections also known as  Bobi Wine, Dr Kizza Besigye 2016 elections were invited to the public debate as main speakers.

However, the Police claim that Besigye required a letter of clearance from the IGP before having to go to the Hotel for the debate.

With grief, Besigye has revealed his discontentment claiming that Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has been everywhere in the country carrying out public rallies but all in vain. 

“The First Son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has been all over the country holding public rallies but police can’t allow an indoor discussion?” – Besigye questioned.

It should be remembered that before this incident the organisers had pointed fingers at the police for threatening their members, claiming that the meeting was put in order lawfully.

“We condemn the police for intimidating our organizers. The meeting is within the laws of Uganda. We have the freedom to have our opinion. Come attend the conference and make your voice heard,’ according to the AIFE-Uganda statement.
