President Museveni Appoints New Justices To The Supreme Court

President Museveni has appointed Justices Christopher Madrama Izama, Stephen Musota and Elizabeth Musoke to the Supreme Court.

STEPHEN MUSOTA 

He is a Ugandan who graduated from Makerere University with an LLB degree in 1984 Appointed Magistrate Grade One in 1992 and Appointed Senior Principal Magistrate Grade One.

He later worked as Chief Magistrate, Deputy Registrar, and Registrar of the High Court Chief Registrar of the Judiciary in 2004.

He was later appointed to the High Court of Uganda and served as head of the civil division in 2015. He also served on the Task Force of Reforms of Criminal and Civil Laws in February 2018 and was appointed to the Court of Appeal.

CHRISTOPHER IZAMA MADRAMA 

He is a great author. Izama was appointed State Attorney in 1990 and 1999  became the Principle.   ln 1999, Christoper moved to LDC  as  Senior Legal  Officer  2001-2010,  became the Principal  Legal Associate of Katende  Ssempebwa and Company Advocates in June 2010  and later was appointed Judge of the High Court of Uganda. 

He served in many divisions in February 2018 and was made Judge in the Court of Appeal.  He has a Master’s Degree of Laws in Women’s Law from the  University of Zimbabwe.

He was also the judge in the controversial cases in 2012. The case was between Nasser Ssebaggala and MTG/SMS Media 2013,   Cafe Javas Kampala and  Nairobi Java  House  March  2022 Male. However, Mabirizi petitioned Judicial  Service   Commission to remove him from the  Court of  Appeal.

 ELIZABETH MUSOKE .

She is a  great woman of vigour who worked in the Ministry of Justice as a Principal State  Attorney in 1999 and the director of Legal Affairs, Inspectorate of Government in 2013 and was appointed to the High  Court of  Uganda under the civil division 2015.

Furthermore, she was appointed to be in the Court of Appeal of Uganda in 2018. She was also one of the justices in the age limit case.

OSCAR KIHIKA

Oscar was the former President of Uganda Law Society Director of Legal Affairs,  National Resistance Movement Party Senior Partner,  Byenkya, Kihika, and Company Advocates in 2010. He also formed a music band dubbed Oscar and Friends which has held charity concerts.

Kihika who has represented President Museveni in several electoral petitions is a legal director at the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM)  and a senior partner at Byenkya, Kihika & Co Advocates, a private law firm.

“In the exercise of the powers vested in the President by Article 142 (1) of the 1995 constitution, I have acted on the advice of the Judicial Service Commission, appointed persons listed as Justices of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, respectively,” Mr Museveni said in the statement dated October 31 2022.

Currently, the Supreme Court is staffed with 10 justices, with a minimum of seven needed to determine constitutional appeals.
